Pretty much one of the coolest pictures ever.

Last Saturday NASA managed to put the Phoenix lander on Mars near the norther polar region of the planet. It is, of course, awesome anytime we manage to land something on Mars as these missions have a historical probability of success a little under 50%. What’s even cooler about this one? We now have so much stuff around or on Mars that we were able to take this picture:

That’s right. The Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter managed to take a picture of the Phoenix lander as it was in the process of landing. You can clearly see the parachute, lander, and even the ropes connecting the two. This is what we humans can do when we set our minds to something.

And for good measure, here is the picture that currently is my computer’s desktop:

Taken from the International Space Station, it’s the earth over the Pacific ocean. You can see the sun reflected in the water. So pretty it almost made me cry the first time I looked at it. If you ever want some inspirational pictures check out NASA's Astronomy Picture of the Day. It’s where I found these.

How does one feel like Schrödinger's Cat?

Maybe I shouldn’t have chosen this for the name of my blog because who knows? In a year I might not feel like Schrödinger’s Cat. But for now, I’m a person aspiring to be a theologian in a denomination that frowns on (and rightfully so) theologians, a republican who will vote for Obama, a short guy with no napoleon complex, a nomad who wants to settle down, an intellectual who plays video games and reads comic books, and a whole truckload of other paradoxical attributes. In short, I’m a mess of contradictions and anomalous attributes, but I sure have fun.

I find you don’t understand something until you’re thought about it carefully and, most important, put it down in writing. Hence why I decided to start a blog. Some of this will be documentary-esque, kind of an online diary or journal. However, I imagine most of it will be my random musings on . . . well, just about anything. And maybe someday I will change my blog to “I no longer feel like Schrödinger’s Cat.” But today is not that day. (Tomorrow’s not looking very good either.)

Welcome to my world.
